I saw Leslie's nose ring. LOVE IT.

True.

It's Labor Day Weekend... can I get an AMEN from the congregation?!? How I needed this break... ALREADY.

Okay... gonna study now. Holla.

I have absolutely nothing interesting to blog about, so if you want to stop reading here, feel free.

Law School is a funny place to be. Oddly competitive people lurking in the shadows, ready to jump down the throat of anyone who needs to take a minute in class to reassess their thoughts before they speak up again. The Socratic method is somewhat stressful, and if you need to take a little bit to regroup, you should be able to do that without someone who thinks that interrupting at exactly that moment will give them the upper hand to get a fantastic grade in the class... the class is PASS/FAIL people! Honestly, what are they thinking...

I think I've been relegated to thinking I'm the dumbest one in Columbia Law School, class of 2005. I mean, I seriously doubt that's true, but have you ever heard that phrase, "If you look around the crowd for the dumbest person and you can't find it, it's you."? Well... there you are, and there I am. Ridiculous. I'm not used to feeling like that... it'll get better, once I get more used to this, no question... just a matter of time.

What else... I still love my apartment. It's amazing. You all need to see it at some point. For sure I'm keep building it up so people will conceivably be disappointed at first glance... but considering this apartment was selected for me by the Columbia University Housing Department... well, you don't usually expect a nice place to come your way using that methodology.

Leslie has her nose pierced and I haven't seen it yet. Scandalous.

Note to everyone: Cruises around New York Harbor aren't as cool as they sound... especially if said cruise begins at 1am. I'll just leave it at that.

Thank God it's Friday.

I just officially finished my first full week of class.

It's been hell. No, really... when they say that your first year in law school is hell, they're not kidding. I mean, it's gonna get better, no doubt, but for now... well... yeah.

Hope everyone is doing well... I haven't seen much of anyone for a while. Actually, that might just be in my head. I'm so far away from everyone else... (well... I don't know if 3 miles constitutes "far away," but still)

And here I am again... sitting in the law library where I should be studying. I told myself I'd be properly productive until around 9pm, but my productivity is already going down. Whatever, it'll come back up again.

There's one thing we all should glean from reading court cases; the more you interpret, the more you separate yourself from the facts, and the more room there is for wildly obtrusive people in your class to go off on tangent after tangent, making you think that your sound perspective of the facts and previously set precendent is completely incorrect when in actuality, you've been okay all along. I don't mean to say that I had a complete understanding of every case we've examined so far... but I know that atleast one person in each class has a solid understanding of the dynamics involved in each situation, and if only the ridiculous banter would stop, we'd actually be able to get to the point. I mean, it's definitely a good thing that the incredible intelligent professor of mine is kind enough not to yell "You're stupid so SHUT UP!" at the unexpecting student who can't seem to stop while they're ahead... we all need to feel as though we're on top of things (atleast for a little bit)... but some subtle guidance of discussion would really help.

I should get back to work.

Here's a blog from August 18th... I typed it out in word format and planned on just uploading it when my computer finally had internet access... and now it does. Joy.

Times they are a changin’. Like I said, I moved about two weeks ago to the Upper West Side, to my deluxe apartment in the sky (well, 11th floor, anyway). Orientation for law school started on Thursday (and that indeed was the day I got my first assignment). Class schedules came, and oh did that hit me upside the head with a dose of reality. Classes. Torts. Contracts. Civil Procedure. Legal Research and Writing. I mean I’d be reading and studying non-stop, but for some reason, I hadn’t prepared myself to attend class. Sounds dumb, true, but just go with me on this one. Now reality is setting in… I don’t much mind it. After a few rocky minutes here and there (my computer not being configured correctly, spending unnecessary amounts of money for apparent law school necessities, not getting to the bookstore before my textbooks were all sold out, etc.), I’m just starting to go with the flow. Another two years and 10 months of this, and I’ll have a career.

Here I am, at a random computer at Columbia Law School. Wild. I just attended my incredibly mundane (perhaps somewhat informative) computer training session required for all first year law students. This is all fine and good. Now the big problem is that I can't seem to use any of thise incredibly amazing information I just gleaned from said session because my laptop SOMEHOW isn't properly configured. I think I need to make the dumbest upgrade ever... from XP Home to XP Professional. Stupid. I hate it.

Ooooooooh... lots of negativity. Whoops. I'm not really that bothered by it. Sorry to build it up.

NOT a game, lots of stuff has been happening...

I MOVED! I'm now chillin' near Columbia's campus. Got a new roommate, too... his name is Federico (mysteriously abbreviated to "Fred"), he's from L.A., went to Yale, has been working for the past two years, and is mad cool... this is all very convenient, since we'll probably be living together for the next 3 years. Ridiculous. But true. Anyway, we've been making all those purchases that a new apartment usually call for when the new tenants didn't really have anything to begin with... for example, today we bought 4 plates, 4 bowls, 4 glasses, a saucepan, a frying pan, a flat-screen tv, a dvd player, a vcr, and a tv stand. We still plan on buying a couch, a coffee table, some bar stools, some dressers, and I need a desk. Lots of money. On TOP of that, law school mandates that I buy a laptop. I have a desktop PC that I'm very happy with, but apparently, that's not gonna cut it. Major downer, considering I don't have that money. I was chatting with "Fred" about said situation, and he tried to put it in perspective... "You'll make all this money back next year when you're a summer associate for 3-4 months." "Okay, 'Fred'," says I, and now I'm looking for a laptop. Wild. Painful, but wild.

The bar on which I hang all my clothes in my closet broke off the wall today. That's a problem. And now this is going to be a test to see how fast the super takes care of it. Let's hope for the best.

I need to get back into the workout thing... What I NEED is a personal trainer... what I can't AFFORD is a personal trainer. A conundrum, no doubt, but still an unavoidable predicament.

I had better not be moving down the rungs of the Hyperwest rankings. I HAVEN'T HAD ACCESS TO THE INTERNET REGULARLY SINCE I MOVED. Please, be a little more sensitive. Thank you.

I'm done for now.

I'm back!!!

It's true.

And how nice it is to see NYC again... dude, I can't believe I actually missed it this much. It's starting to feel like home, no doubt. I guess that's a good thing, because I'm going to be hear for atleast the next three years.

Lots to be said. Cali was great... I saw almost everyone (I didn't get around to the All American alum... sorry Dowai, Steph, Nort, and Haas...)... I chilled with Tal, Pam, Tom and Julie in L.A., Jon, Hong, & Victor in San Diego, Stef, Irene, and Jennylee in San Francisco, Nancy in Santa Cruz, and Annie in Santa Barbara... and all the while, my girl Amy was with me. It was great chillin with her... I haven't seen her for the past 5 years, and before then, only during our high school speech days. Sick. We love it.

I can't do detail right now... I'm about to meet up with Sammy, Stevie, Megan, etc... more later.
