got home from our firm outing an hour and a half ago... did my laundry... need to pack for Vegas 'cuz I'll be there in approximately 24 hours... but I need to get to work early so I can finish my work early but I have so much I need to do... a little stressed... but thrilled about the weekend.
Where the hell are my sunglasses?

screwed up, I tell you. Screwed up.
A few months ago, I planned a trip to Vegas... A friend called me up and said, let's go sometime, and I said okay, and we booked flights and hotel rooms. Easy. We planned the trip for this coming weekend. Super fun.
I subsequently have learned that Hongshin, Lynn, Stef and Alvin will be in town... and Gerard is leaving town for good... and Randall, Honey and Jenn are all having birthday-ish parties... What?!? I'm missing all of this?
screwed up. C'mon people, don't you know I'm not gonna be here?!? screwed up.

Let's talk about this weekend... actually, how about just this past Saturday night. Amazing. Disa and I decided that would be our night out, where we could thoroughly depend on each other for good company and follow each other wherever one goes.
We started off having dumplings at The Dumpling Man (yes, there's a place called that. Dream come true. Actually, no, not really... dumplings were thoroughly mediocre, but love that there's a place where you can get fast food-ish dumplings... it's sort of weird because you can buy these dumplings "marco-polo style" which is basically just with marinara-basilico sauce all over them... it's like eating very complicated ravioli. Not a hit... but I digress...).
Then we headed down to Battery Park City for my co-worker Malinda's little apt. party. The place was adorable, the people were super fun (my co-workers, for the most part), and this dog named Bentley... if you put both your hands up and say "gimme 10," Bentley rears up and slaps his two front paws to your hands. So cute, I couldn't even handle myself. And neither could anyone else.
Anyway, so after we chatted and had some drinks and I sufficiently showed the wonderful being that is Mandisa to everyone, she and I and Jason (another co-worker, very cool) headed over to Table 50 for Leslie's birthday and guest-DJ-appearance by ?uestlove. Okay, it was a potential disaster, but it ended up being the biggest hit ever. We got there early-ish (we're talking 10:40pm), and there was already a line around the block. We cut up to the front (because why not) to see Leslie and Babbs and everyone else up there... but they weren't letting anyone in... We waited until 11:20, and just when we were about to leave, they let us in. And it's a good thing they did, because the music was AMAZING. Seriously, best best BEST music I've heard in the city EVER. People were just dancing non-stop... and I don't understand how there were some who WEREN'T dancing... it was just that great.
We definitely left on a high point... I dragged Disa, Jason and Gerard with me while I had to go make a quick appearance at Coral Room to give my girl Jenny a Happy Birthday hug... but I saw Alison in the front, who informed me of the incredible wackness of the spot (probably due to the lack of Sam Sneed's presence), so we jetted pretty immediately, heading over the Brother Jimmy's, the whitest hick joint this side of Appalachia... where my OTHER co-worker, Mike Dillon, maybe the coolest friggin' 30-something I know, was bartending. So fun. So great. So Paradise City.
Again, on a high note, when we were all on the verge of passing out (well, I was), we headed back. Jason and I had some late night food at Tom's Diner (yes, Tom's Diner), where he told me of his impending love of Mandisa (I TOLD them so...)... Too bad they're both taken.
The best thing ever? Woke up, NO hangover. Brilliant.

I was sick for the past few days, it sucked, now I'm back to maybe 90%, hooray.
I'm sort of scared because I just turned in an assignment at work... It not only was one of the largest writing assignments I've had to do, but it also was for the senior litigator at the firm, and also for this partner who has apparently been a big supporter of mine since the beginning. I have the feeling it's just because she was the person who gave me my first interview (so I'm sort of her "recruit")... so I'm afraid that once she sees my work product and thinks that it's sub-par (we're hoping that my work product ISN'T like that), and then decides not to be the supportive person she has always been, I'll be screwed.
Please, let me not be screwed.

UPDATE: My iPod works again! My co-worker told me about all this "resetting" garbage, and now I can leave free again.
Been working long hours, but I really like my job.
Haven't had the chance to choreograph anything good... where's that inspiration when you need it the most?

Apparently, I end my stories in a manner such that I provide ample opportunity for myself to add a "flourish."
My co-workers are trying to take on their own versions of the "flourish." I'm bringing it back, along with the sweater vest.

Last weekend was the 2004 McDermott Will & Emery Summer Associates Retreat. Basically, all the summer associates from the U.S. offices of my firm congregated in D.C. for 4 days of sheer ridiculousness. The NYC represented (if it's at all possible to "represent" at a corporate retreat) to the point that all the hiring partners and recruiting coordinators from all the offices were chillin' with the 11 of us. Lots of eating, drinking, eating, drinking, dancing, eating... oh, and I napped a few times. We stayed in one of those posh hotels where the entire hotel staff knows your name from the moment you check in, and where they turn down your bed and flip on some classical music every evening. Clearly a fun weekend, and I'm even closer to my class of summers...

I got a silver mini iPod about a week ago (after the month long wait)... it stopped working yesterday. WHAT?!? Yes, it's true. Malinda tells me that apparently I can reboot it somehow, although I think I've tried every button-pressing maneuver. Regardless, I'm upset. So sad.

A new boba spot is opening in Cambridge, MA in the very near future... It's called "Boston Tea Stop" and it will potentially be the best boba on the East Coast. So... those of you in Boston... check it out, and check it out often.
